BEWEGUNGSMELDER 2008 – BILD.BAU.STELLE 2010

Workshop in the context of favoriten08 – Theaterzwang

In the context of favoriten08 – Theaterzwang, the international workshop Bewegungsmelder 2008 takes place in Dortmund from October 17th to October 21st. The workshop, a meeting of media and performance artists, focuses on discussing creative processes in the field of artistic and political strategies. Main emphasis lies on the debate with public space as well as the creative and if applicable subversive examination of technologies made for control and surveillance. The artistic intervention on the Democratic discussion is also going to be one of the focal points.
The workshop is a follow-up of the work done by international artists within the scope of the ITI-project Bewegungsmelder / escalators during the theater festival Theater der Welt 2008 in Halle, Germany. Thus, it forms the project’s second phase of work and interchange in Germany, focusing especially on getting together artists from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Australia, Belgium, Great-Britain, France, Canada and the United States of America. The intention of these work phases is to form long term cooperation. The next important step is supposed to be a third work phase, taking place in 2010 in cooperation with the festival favoriten – Theaterzwang and the ITI. Depending on the artistic orientation of this third work phase, collaboration with Theater der Welt 2010 is intended.
The artists are invited to put up for discussion their creative work, which mostly is characterized by ongoing working processes, networking and the debate on new technologies and the different structures of the media society.
The five-day workshop 2008 in Dortmund is supposed to provide an informal structure for the artists to discuss and work within the festival favoriten08 – Theaterzwang. In Dortmund, the HartwareMedienKunstVerein could be resurrected as another conceptual partner. About 15 artists take part in the five-day workshop. Daily work meetings and discussions with experts from culture, economy and politics are in the center of attention. Here, especially the presentation of the artist’s own work with their topical approaches and their perspective question is very important. These sessions are combined with meeting the representations of the festival and getting to know the cultural landscape NRW by visiting theatres, studios and rehearsals of different ensembles. The off theatres of NRW are becoming hosts of international artists and together, possibilities of cooperation will be developed.
